Spiritual Counseling

What is Spiritual Counseling?

It is a helping relationship that combines counseling support with an exploration into your spiritual path.

To some people, spirituality is grounded in religious faith. Others find spirituality in nature or in relationships. A spiritual experience may be sensing the presence of God, or knowing another person at such depth and intimacy that God’s presence is felt at the very same time. Some people suddenly feel the presence of a Higher Power after a crisis.

However you define spirituality, it has something to do with transcendence and presence, holiness and searching, connection and longing. These aspects of spirituality are deeply human.

It is in this intersection of the divine and the human that the healing journey takes place.

A Gallup Poll found that when confronted with a personal problem needing counseling or psychotherapy, 66% would prefer a counselor who represented spiritual values and beliefs, and 81% would prefer a counselor who enabled them to integrate their values and belief system into the counseling process.

Spirituality builds upon personal psychology and well-being. But it is not the same thing. The main focus is upon aspects such as: faith, devotion, wisdom, compassion, spiritual techniques (i.e. prayer and meditation), and spiritual experiences. Together we will work on:

  • Healing Religious Injury
  • Developing a relationship with God/ The Creator
  • Creating a Higher Power that you can relate to
  • Healing a crisis of faith
  • Pre-Marital Spiritual Counseling
